One half of Pauline Hager, LinDee Rochelle, Sally Gary, Linda Meckler, the Wolfman, Mary Prokop, and Larry Edwards met at Balboa Park to discuss our fate since we last met.
Pauline's new book on Greek heroism is on the verge of coming out. LinDee is in the throes of writing her book on DJs. Linda had exciting news about radio interviews, library lecture series, and new venues to pitch her just released book on how to fight your medical insurance and win. It seems this is a hot topic. I rattled on about sliding off the slippery slope of writing into the pit of building websites. I also gave a report on the cost of printing tee shirts for promo. LinDee gave support with costs to get pens with promo on the side. Sally had the best idea. Just get one tee shirt made with your book cover on the front and go do TV interview to show it off during the interview.

Larry is in the chips now. He picked up a couple of editing jobs. He will be writing a story close to his heart in the near future. More on that latter.
We talked about ads for writing and decided it didn't pay. We contemplated a full page ad in the Reader to place our own "Best Seller List" with all our books on it. Or placing ads in magazines like Writer's Digest and The Writer, but Sally says her word on the street is that doesn't hold water. It's best to promo through radio and TV.
We want to build a list of viable venues to pool our resource in the upcoming book selling season of warm weather by targeting certain bookfairs. Some are free, some have fees. Nobody went for my idea of ads on bus stop benches. You might get noticed, but the cost would out weight the books sales. |
