A GREAT SUCCESS STORY FOR THE NEW YEAR

I am feeling so very fortunate to be starting the New Year on such a high note! Last week I was interviewed for the LA Times and the NY Times and on Sunday, Dec. 30th an article was printed on Page 2 of the STYLE section of both papers, with two full paragraphs about my book.

I asked the journalist how she knew to contact me. She explained that she went to Amazon.com and searched for books on cosmetic surgery. My book interested her, simply because it was NOT written by a plastic surgeon, but shared the experiences of many women. Now I need to work hard to "capture the moment". If any of you have suggestions of ways I might capitalize on this article, please share with me. (I particularly want to get this book into plastic surgeons' offices, so if you have any good contacts, please let me know and I will happily send you a press kit.) Be assured that as I learn other marketing strategies, I will in turn share with all of you. Remember our theme of "Authors Helping Authors"?

Now for the article: HEY, IT'S STILL ME IN HERE began with a discussion of Ashley Tisdale and her fans negative responses to her rhinoplasty (nose job), followed by a short discussion about harsh disapproval and criticism some experience from friends, relatives and children after cosmetic surgery. Next came the following:

"Lois W. Stern interviewed more than 100 women for 'Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery: Things You’ll Never Learn From Your Plastic Surgeon' (Infinity Publishing, 2006). She said the women gave various reasons for less than ecstatic responses to their surgeries: some said that looking better and feeling more confident unhinged boyfriends and husbands; a few had relatives who disapproved of the cost; and some said that friends became jealous and competitive."

"Ms. Stern, who herself has had a face-lift, found that men became more attentive and complimentary while women’s reactions ranged from thrilled to hostile. Her once chatty hairdresser clammed up when she noticed the surgical scars on her scalp."

“I could feel something in the air, there was a different tone — and I left her because of that,” said Ms. Stern, who lives on Long Island. “With some people, their value system says it’s a frivolous thing.”
