I like the new book cover and the history on book covers was interesting. I wonder if Infinity uses a grid?

Interesting observations.
I had to look twice at the first two covers to notice the blood drops.
As somebody who studies graphic design and worked freelance design and illustration, I appreciate your observations.

Interesting. I surely agree about the importance of a cover. I'm not so sure any here would grab my attention, Course, I'm kind of odd anyway. I like yours best. And yes, I did catch the twitch in the angle of the horn. But, I had to look for it. I'd never have noticed it just browing on a book rack.
Penguin? All those circles and lines just confuse me. I'm not geometrically minded but for the perfect circles of star trails in time-lapse photograpyy. The covers her are rather elementary. Not at all provacative to me.
As for the New Yorker, I've always wondered how a magazine of its caliber can get away with such boring covers. Yup. Now, I know it's me. I'm different than the masses. I'm not known as a rebel for nothing. I am sure they are all excellent books. Inside. But, I'd never make it that far. What might move me next is, the back cover. I must say, thou, Russ has geometrically designed covers and I like his. Maybe it's the pictures themselves that don't grab me. Looks like cartoon art. Just my honest opinion. It was interesting to read and study.

Love Exhibit B for your "Benny Plays the Blues" cover. It surely gives you an inducement to crack the binding and immerse yourself in the book to see where it leads. I've designed both of my book covers rather than accepting images from the publisher and have received many compliments as to their "eye-catchiness." Working on my third book now and have already selected the cover image. Talk about putting the cart before the horse!
