"Time to Jump Off the Bandwagon"

Well, John

At least your calm about all this. I must agree, bandwagons should remain that, that introduces a circus. And from that point of view, maybe is consistent with what you're saying. In the arc of the presidential story, the character needs to be developed to be larger-than-life to keep the people engaged. Every writing class will tell you this, but that should only pertain to fiction. The fact that this elected character has a real impact on our lives, that's compelling enough for me. I get it.

I had enough trouble reconciling the Vietnam war, but went and served anyway. I don't know how I would have faired with this Middle East thing. The diversion from a just conflict to stop Al Qaida and the Taliban to go on a Crusade into a sovereign nation under such false pretenses would have been a lot to accept to run off to risk life and limb.

Your point is well taken in that the character of the president is paramount and we have had some "characters" in the White House since Ike, probably the last real human verses coached celebrity. I have to quote a rock star, who I must bow to in coming up with an apt description of the modern politician when Sting refers to them as all being game show hosts.

The media is no longer the conscious of the people. The media is a department owned by a conglomerate business, i.e., General Electric owns NBC (Oh, and they are a major defense contractor now, as well). The whole presentation is a scripted sit-com, so I don't know how Americans can even get a fair picture of the character of the few (only two!) to chose from. The political system of the United States is designed to narrow the choice down to only those that follow the party line or should I say will tow the party line. So that illuminates another ugly facet and that is who are those that establish this party line? They are obviously beyond the candidates and more powerful. Can you say Bildeberger?

I assume you are referring to taxes as the root of all evil. Every kingdom has used taxes to finance its skullduggery. If it collapses economies and sways history into more Dark Ages, those who have the gold and make the rules, aren't hurt, so it's hard for them to be concerned. Pulling taxes is like trying to yank a steak from a lion's mouth. Don't plan on success.

Hi John - I see you are in rare form here! :))

I have to agree you've made some irrefutable points in your 'jump' but I'm not holding my breath at the hope of ever seeing an Independent with character ever getting elected. Until there\'s a great change in how we elect our leaders and reform campaign spending and methods we either rant, boycott the polls, or choose the less of the evils. Until we demand accountability, re-study the Constitution we supposedly have as a founding document, and get issues that have no business even entering in a political discussion that affect ALL the people of this nation, this is what we are going to continue to have.

Until, we vote on issues without infusing our own personal passions and beliefs that have nothing to do with politics, until we take personal responsibility for our welfare and that of our own families, we will have people voting on the premise of 'what's in it for me'? To hell with the guy down the street. We are ALL guilty of it to one degree or another.

I'm still looking for one political dissertation by anyone that doesn't mention their chosen faith, their gender, their age, or the color of their flesh as being a motivating factor.

I am glad to see the issues being discussed OUTSIDE the mainstream media, however. Good essay!!
