"I Hate Computers"

Hi Russ,

I love computers, but it's a love-hate relationship. I depend on them for so much and they are so undependable. It's a total paradox.

Russ,

I have been in the same boat and done that. But I am still smiling.

Peace be with you, Russ.

My husband simply cusses until the computer is shamed into submission. When that doesn't work and all other options are exhausted, he calls my computer whizz son, who owns and operates a computer business. His recompense is a Sunday dinner. Computers are "ugh" but it seems we can't live without them.

Another great article, Russ.

You answered a question that has been floating around in my mind for some time. For the past several weeks, my provider - a phone company in N.E. PA - has been telling me that a certain financial newsletter I normally receive on weekends has been screwing up. That's the reason it ends up in their mail system as Spam. Uh-huh. Then, if I don't quick jump into that mail system (requiring all sorts of keyboard gymnastics) and reroute it to my in-box, it's just expunged. Okay, this has been going on for two months. This weekend, I again called the provider (Yeah, they DO have a phone number!..)and I got a human being with an distinctly un-PA-like voice. He couldn't fathom the problem and put me on HOLD while he conferred with a supervisor. The answer: THEY were at fault, not the sender of the newsletter. Ah-ha! Instructions were given on how to Mickey up the buttons of their mail handling system to henceforth reroute the letter out of their Spam into MY in-box. Russ, you've awakened me to the fact that they are now outsourcing customer complaints to India. That voice was Indian! And the guy goofed, admitting it was their problem instead of giving me the old local hire's PA run-around, blaming the problem on the sender.

But what to do? Fire the phone company? Not likely. Better eat crow.

Thanks, Russ. At least now I know.
