"Outsource Everything"

Hi Russ,

Maureen Dowd used to be my favorite NY Times columnist, but lately I have found her a little redundant (or perhaps I just need a break from her brand of humor). Nonetheless, outsourcing is a double edge sword, isn't it? We love reaping bargains, even if on the backs of our home grown workers, rarely thinking that these outsourced suppliers of goods and services are impacting the health of our economy. I hope our labor unions and workers will be smart enough to compromise a bit in this time of economic crisis and help us even the score a little.

I always enjoy your writing, Russ.

Very best,

Hi,

This is Rupi your support guy for your problem. I have been in your country for a long distance and know your sorrow, man. But thanks to many peoples that now read my column instead of yours, I have two cows, a chicken, and a gold American Express Card. You rock. I can hire 500 writers now to do my columns, so I will see you in the Bahamas. Maybe we can talk about copyright. I need to find out what that is... great puzzlement.

Outsourcing has long been a pet peeve of mine. I work for a small law firm specializing in Labor & Employment, Civil Rights. Our office is in Broward County, tucked in a large Call Center. The call center is owned by my boss's family and we do the legal work for them too. They have clients like Hershey's, Crate & Barrel and other very well-known names. They branched out, opening call centers in India, Ghana and a few other places. However, it turned out that that these were less than pleasing to the customers and they've since been closed. I suppose you might say my boss outsources his employees too. I, the case intake manager (fancy title for client interviewer), am five hours away from the office. Our paralegal lives on the Alabama border (we were both living in Broward when we started with the firm). The boss and his partner do a lot of work from their homes and come into the office mainly for appointments. This is the age of technology. I sit here, often in my PJs, talking to clients from all over the states.
