Responses for ~ Ray Lutz's Article "Show, Don't Tell" |
Ray,
"Your article is sage advice for the writer," he though as he tapped
his pen in the inkwell for the next line. He scratched his head, and then
wrote, "I'm going to incorporate your advice in my next short story and see
if I can get a response back from readers to test your theory." His hand
searched for the coster to drop his cup of coffee on before heading to the
couch.

This is an excellent article. I was reminded of working with my editor in he beginning stages of my novel. I hadn't heard, "Show, don't tell." Loretta Hudson, a protoge of Sol Stein, said it in almost the same words. "Don't tell me Paul looked apprehensive. Show me. Describe how he looked." After that lesson, I icture every scene before I write it. Super advice and written so well.
