Responses for ~ John's
"Open Wounds"

I normally flinch a bit before I click on "Write a review" because I think of this section as "Write a comment" or "Respond" - not a review at all. But whatever the nomenclature, here goes.

A freind of mine whose book was published by a traditional publisher was so devastated by an editorial decision that came to her after printing her book, that her husband sent her on a weekend vacation to recover from her angst. what was the problem: They arbitrarily decided to delete an entire chapter that she felt was key to the book. They didn't even have the courtesy to call her to discuss or inform. So much for traditional publishing! I love being an Indie and having control over my work. My only issue with this system is that the good, the excellent and the trash get lumped together under the broad category of "self-published" and as a result, the words self-published deliever a poor connotation. I wish their was some form of control over quality or a rating system that went with these books. In the meantime, we need to self-monitor and help one another to avoid bad press. It's called quality control. John, your wonderful Fox and Quill has taken a stand toward respect for the Indie authors. Ditto, Dahris claire. How else should we go about it?

I believe the chaff is part of the game and the public will sort it out. We shouldn't worry about it so much. I've read some Hemmingway I thought was drivel, so what can you say. It's all in the hands of the readers. We are a diverse, odd ball, eclectic society where one man's can of bait worms is another's gormet dinner.
