Buzz - Why India?
by John Wolf

Heard enough from India? Not yet you haven't. While wondering about the virtues of tweeting on Twitter or starting a new blog-to-nowhere, I came across a writing contest designed on mutual benefit verses making some magazine or publishing house rich. Let me explain.

I signed up for a short story competition from Mirage Publishing in Pune, India. Their schema was to publish a book of 50 select short stories from authors around the world to be use as a promotion for their company. The benefit to the included authors would be a widely distributed presence of their name and work across India.

I thought this was better than a fancy bordered certificate to put on the wall that said, whoopee you won a contest. I made the cut!

I didn't know that Mirage was in India when I sent in the story, but maybe I had a subconscious enlightenment; it's a Buddha thing. I had just finished a first draft of a book set in India. I was up to my ears in researching old legends, trails through the Himalaya to the Silk Road, and weaving all of this into a murder mystery.

Well, the Mirage book is in print how as well as my new novel. India, India, India. A year ago the dusty lands of the Punjab were the farthest thing from my thoughts. Hopefully, this will open a door to a new market.

I now know how to wire funds to India and eat a lot more curry. Maybe someday I'll have a chance to take a taxi down the Chandni Chowk to see the old Red Fort.

My point is never let a slippery opportunity a chance to slide back into the murky waters of fate when something unusual comes along, but look into it and not past it. All the blogs in the world can't beat the impact of having a book in print on many shelves, even if its oceans away.

The Mirage book is called "Inner Voices" and can be purchased through Amazon. My new book is called "Of Beryl & Alabaster" and can be purchased through Infinity Publishing at BuyBooksOnTheWeb.com until Amazon places it on their list. Here's the cover art:

Speaking of new books, David Rosenberg has a new one out call "The Obvious Answer." Here's the blurb:

An erupting volcano inspires Jonathan Weare, heir to the Weare Enterprises conglomerate. His mother and company president Suzanne Weare agrees that his idea might solve the world’s energy crisis. She funds plant construction that uses earth heat and nanochemistry to make expensive liquid fuels. Jonathan convinces Jordan Nash, a renowned environmentalist, that his plant will remove atmospheric greenhouse gases and eliminate transoceanic shipping of petroleum.

Jonathan becomes increasingly aware of mounting political pressure threatening his effort. Nadir Consulting, a company empowered to minimize threats to the petroleum industry and manipulate energy prices for profit, receives an order to eliminate the threat posed by Jonathan’s new company—Weare Energy. Layer by layer angry citizens learn of sabotage, murder, and widespread corruption as Nadir acts to protect the worldwide energy monopoly. Jonathan seeks help from the ultimate source of power—the people.
