The Road to the Second Book
by Lois W. Stern

My first book,Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgerywas born of my personal experiences, facing the realization that there was so little information about the emotional undercurrents to this event –so much secrecy and misunderstanding – even intolerance. I was an educator for twenty-one years and once an educator, always an educator. I felt duty bound to inform and set the record straight.

Sex

As I did my thing at book presentations/signings, invariable I would get questions about some of the minimally invasive, non-surgical paths to beauty. There is so much hype out there. Women (and men) are being bombarded with the latest miracle device or technique to transform themselves from the likes of a Sharpei dog to a beauty queen – all within the span of a lunch hour. It sounds too good to be true, and in most cases it is!

Education Piece #2: Here’s where that educator piece in me resurfaced. I mapped a plan for my second book, Tick Tock, Stop the Clock and gave it the subtitle: Getting Pretty on Your Lunch Hour. I wanted to cover a broad spectrum of aesthetic techniques and technologies – some totally non-invasive like skin care and cosmeceuticals, others minimally invasive like laser treatments and dermal fillers. But I wanted to do it without the hype – with an honest appraisal of what can and cannot be accomplished without surgery in the aesthetic arena.

I recruited twelve outstanding experts in their individual fields to help with this project. I’m talking professionals who lecture at national conferences and publish in journals representing their individual professions. I only sought out people who had proven themselves as true experts, highly respected by their peers, recognized as skilled practitioners with cutting edge knowledge and the ability to communicate accurate information in an easy and somewhat entertaining style. I wasn’t fooling around here. I was in hot pursuit of the best-of-the-best. The amazing thing is that I convinced each of these people to say yes!

If you want to know the topics covered by these experts, you can meet them at: www.ticktockstoptheclock.com, see their photos, read brief synopses of their credentials and learn a bit about the contents of their chapters.

On the back cover I wrote the words:
“It certainly is nice to know that even in times of economic downturn, we can find affordable ways to enhance our beauty.”

I want people to know that they don’t have to go to extremes to improve their appearance and feel good about their physical selves.

A of this writing, Tick Tock, Stop the Clock - Getting Pretty on Your Lunch Hour has yet to be posted on Amazon.com, yet I have received orders from states quite distant from NY, including Mn, Mi, Ca., Fl. and Ga. all from the Pay Pal order forms posted at my website – and the book was published less that one month ago.

Education Piece #3: I have a videotape of my first Tick Tock, Stop the Clock presentation, where renowned plastic surgeon and contributor to this book, Dr. Alan Kisner, also speaks. As an introductory offer, those who order Tick Tock, Stop the Clock receive a free DVD of that videotaped session.  (Obviously this is only for orders fulfilled from my website.)

Education Piece #4: Once again, my educational mindset has helped spread the word about my books as I build a reputation as a dependable resource. Here is what is working for me:
